.FAFSA...........PIN..........Pre-Application Worksheet

Definition of Terms:

FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (You must fill out this form if you are applying for Federal Student aid, but in order to do this you must first have a PIN #)

PIN #: This allows you to electronically sign your FAFSA form. To apply for a U.S Department of Education PIN, go to U.S. Department of Ed. Pin

Once you successfully complete a request, the Department of Education will e-mail or mail your PIN. It will take approximately three business days after you request your PIN for you to receive an e-mail notification with instructions on how to retrieve it electronically, or 7-10 days to receive it in the mail via the U.S. Postal Service.

Students should apply for a PIN as soon as possible in order to be ready to fill out their FAFSA in January 2004. Apply for FAFSA

The PIN serves as your identifier to let you access your personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems. It's like the Personal Identification Number that you get from your bank that enables you to access your account. Because your PIN serves as your electronic signature, you should not give it to anyone.

You can use your PIN at these U.S. Department of Education Web sites: National Student Loan Data System The Direct Loan Consolidation Web site: Your PIN will enable you to track the processing status of your online Consolidation Loan application throughout the entire consolidation process from application receipt to booking with Direct Loan Servicing.

The Direct Loan Servicing: Use your PIN to access Direct Loan Counseling and Entrance Counseling

.Pre-Application Worksheet: This will help you fill out the FAFSA form on the web. Go to the Federal Student Aid FSA website and in the search box type in the words, Pre Application Worksheet. This will take you to the worksheet. Remember this is only a worksheet to help you with the task of gathering information. It is not the actual FAFSA form itself .
